Aventura terminada!
All good things must come to an end. Although perhaps less adventurous than our last pre-Covid trip to Russia and the Baltic States, this adventure turned out to be even better than we thought. In the six weeks of travelling we stopped at eighteen campsites and covered some four thousand five hundred miles. We were wowed by the sheer variety of our experience, from the numerous small towns and cities with winding, narrow cobbled streets, many with castles and defences reflecting the turbulent history of the country, to coastal towns frequented by the many surfers or focussed on catering for the holiday masses.
Lisbon is a great city; it's crazy that neither of us had been there before.
We haven't travelled in the north of Portugal on this trip as we simply didn't have enough days left, being restricted to forty two by Schengen Zone rules (we live some of our time in Spain). We plan to return to remedy this, with Porto being a high priority.
The Portuguese culture is interesting; it's a fascination to us how each country or region that we travel through is so different, sometimes subtly, sometimes overtly. I'm not going to attempt to analyse the cultural differences between the Spain that we know so well and Portugal but they are certainly far apart in many ways.
A shout-out to our car for this trip, the Volvo XC60 Recharge, which exceeded our expectations by some margin. There's more info HERE.
If you want to dip into our adventures, feel free but bear in mind that it consists of posts as updates throughout the trip, so it's in reverse order, last post first. Odd, I know.
If you really want to follow the trip in the right order you start HERE and work forwards. Bonkers, really.... why don't you just browse!?
Thanks for looking
